Joe Cato graduated as a civil engineer in 1978. He commenced working for several large construction materials companies in concrete and asphalt before moving on to work for several large and medium-sized civil contractors. He started his own civil contracting business in 1988 in Wollongong, NSW. After ten years of successful growth he expanded his business interests and founded an asphalt paving company as well as a decorative asphalt business.
After selling his businesses in 2008, Joe began consulting to the construction industry.

Joe is also an experienced owner-builder, having built a sandstone house in the ‘80s and more recently a rammed earth sustainable house; the latter being featured on an episode of Grand Designs Australia.
Joe is a member of the Institute of Civil Infrastructure and also the Earth Building Association of Australia.
Joe lives with his wife at a secluded property at Foxground, NSW.
